Exploring Landscape

My landscapes are created in oil pastel, soft pastel, charcoal and watercolours.I find great inspiration when spending in time nature - particularly in the bush around my home in the Blue Mountains. From intimate scenes to grand vistas with constantly changing light and shadows, I react to the environment around me, observe and collect information, while I absorb the complex beauty of the natural world.

“With an image distilled in my mind, and with distance from the original subject, my initial idea or reason for reacting to the subject becomes clearer. I am forced to rely on the knowledge I've gathered in my years of sketching and being in nature which then frees me to orchestrate the composition, to communicate that abstract idea. As I further explore landscape, I find my drawings are moving from a documentary to a poetic style.”
